Wow, a book club!
…A real book club where you can actually talk about authors, characters, and plot lines.

HCPL Rocks!

Okay, let’s see um… My staple reading is fiction usually Detective mysteries a la, Robert Parker, Sue Grafton, Tony Hillerman, etc. British mysteries by Dick Francis and P.D. James are always soothing and trigger a smile in the most unlikely passages.

I’ve enjoyed thrillers by Clive Cussler since my teens, though now I find them a bit one dimensional. I have just discovered James Rollins’ Sigma Force novels and find his back stories of obscure science and history more fascinating than the characters.

Oh, before I forget, I’d recommend virtually anything by Dean Koontz (except maybe his Frankenstein trilogy). If you haven’t read his Odd Thomas series, I strongly suggest it, but be sure to start at the beginning. As an aside, you might also want to read a bit of poetry by T.S. Elliot, then note the emulating style of Koontz. There’s just a very cool way he hangs words together. (not like that last sentence)

I occasionally treat myself with nostalgic Raymond Chandler, Dorothy Sayers, and Chester Himes. Now, there’s an eclectic combination of authors!

I do not enjoy the James Patterson novels. They actually “pain” me with the over-the-top graphic descriptions of psychopathic violence. I’m nearly always frustrated with Michael Crichton. His story endings always seem to me that he’s simply ran out of ink.

Okay, that’s enough about me. Anybody else read any good books lately ?

Hellloooo… Is anybody out there?

Hi readers, Just thought I'd let you in on a couple of recent dicoveries: two great websites for finding the book you want to read.

The first is http://www.bookmarksmagazine.com/
This site actually originated as Bookmarks Magazine and you can buy back issues if you get addicted. It describes itself as "an online database of book reviews from major newspapers and magazines. Every two months, we rate books and summarize those reviews" Many of the titles are "literary" (one of my favorites) but genres such as science, crime and biography are also represented.

Next, if you like reading series and hate trying to figure out what's next try this UK site:
http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/
very clean and fast. Easy to select and print selection to carry with you.

Hope you like. joycenclyde
